LEWISTON — Authorities have identified a woman found dead at a home on Hallowell Road in Durham on Monday.

The body of Sandra A. Corrigan, 47, of Whitefield was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for an autopsy. The cause and manner of her death have not been released as authorities continue their investigation.

Rescue crews were called to the home to attend to a 63-year-old man who was recovering from heart surgery and who had been complaining of chest pain, authorities said. When paramedics arrived at the scene, they discovered the body of Corrigan in a bed and called law enforcement.

Corrigan had been a visitor in the 1439 Hallowell home of the man, who was not identified by authorities. He was later taken to a Portland hospital for medical issues.

The unattended death did not appear to be suspicious and there were no obvious signs explaining why Corrigan had died. All unattended deaths must be investigated.

A detective from the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department was on the scene Monday afternoon, investigating.

The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit was called to the scene later in the afternoon on Monday, along with an investigator with the medical examiner’s office.

Investigators from the state were expected to seek a warrant to search the home later Monday.

A funeral home removed the woman’s body Monday evening and took it to Augusta to the medical examiner’s office, where an autopsy was performed. The cause and manner of her death are pending, according to Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy William Gagne.

The case remains under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Sheriff’s Office and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Gagne wrote in a statement released Tuesday afternoon.
