The junior attacker was determined it wasn’t going to happen again.

And it didn’t.

Blais scored a game-high six goals and No. 4 Lewiston advanced to the regional semifinal round for the second time, and first since 2008. The Blue Devils will play at top-seeded Messalonskee on Friday at 3:30 p.m. The Eagles won both regular-season meeting in overtime.

“(Blais is) a special player,” Lewiston coach Skip Capone said. “The great thing about her is she’s unselfish. And our team is as well. We just cycle and the ball and she has a knack for putting the ball in the back of the net.”

The current Blue Devils (9-4) were aware of the team’s recent playoff history with the Eagles. A year ago, Lewiston, the No. 5 seed,  lost 6-5. Two years ago, Lewiston was the No. 3 seed, but were upset, 13-10.

“Third time was the charm today,” Capone said. “The kids played great. That’s as consistent we’ve played from start to finish all year. Offensively, defensively, they did some real nice things and I’m proud of everyone.”

It looked like deja vu early as the fifth-seeded Eagles (7-6) scored the game’s first two goals less than 10 minutes in. Mya Mannette put Windham on the board at 34 seconds and Luisa Sbardella made it 2-0 eight minutes later.

Lewiston’s offense came alive after that, scoring five of the final six goals of the first half to take a 5-3 lead. Blais had four of them, three in a span of 2 minutes, 46 seconds at the end of the half.

“We just kept playing hard,” Blais said. “That’s all we can do. We weren’t going to let them beat us again. Third time’s the charm.”

Two of Blais’ tallies came off assists from Lauren Lecompte, who scored the Blue Devils’ first goal of the contest. Blais tied the game at 2 off a feed from Lecompte and against at 3 with a pass from behind the net from Emily Brochu with 2:52 left in the first half.

Blais scored off a stoppage with 23 seconds left and once more in the first with six seconds remaining on the clock.

The halftime break didn’t slow her down. She scored on a breakaway 29 seconds into the second half.

Brochu’s first of two second-half goals capped a 5-0 run spanning 18:23. Sbardella stopped the bleeding for the Eagles with 17:58 left for her second tally of the game.

The Eagles clawed to within two goals twice at 7-5 and 9-7 only to see their comeback attempt thwarted. Blais registered her sixth goal and Brochu netted her second to push Lewiston’s advantage to four with 12:04 left.

“We just kept believing,” Blais said. “We kept playing hard and we kept believing and that was the game-changer.”

Clinging to a two-goal lead with two minutes left after Mannette pulled Windham within 9-7, the Blue Devils turned to goaltender Paige Fontaine to seal the victory. Fontaine made nine saves — eight in the second half — to punch Lewiston’s ticket to the semifinals. She made two stops late on stoppage plays.

“My defense helped me a lot and on defense we communicated amazing,” Fontaine said. “Our transition was perfect. I couldn’t ask for a better transition down the field.”

Erin Malloy finished with seven saves in net for Windham. The Blue Devils scored on all four shots in the second half.
