WATERFORD — Waterford Grange 479 will host an AARP driver safety course from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday, June 18, at the Waterford Town Office, 366 Valley Road. There will be several 15- to 20-minute breaks with light refreshments provided.
The AARP Driver Safety course, designed for experienced drivers over the age of 50, includes defensive driving techniques, new traffic laws and rules of the road, and how to deal with aggressive drivers. The class helps drivers adjust to age related changes in vision, hearing, and reaction time as well as important information about the side effects of medication on driving. It teaches techniques for handling left turns, right-of-way, blind spots and much more.
Registration is required. The cost of the course is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members.
Insurance companies in Maine are required by law to give discounts to drivers 55 and older who have completed the course. The certification must be renewed every three years.
