FARMINGTON – Regional School Unit 9’s proposed $32.25 million school budget for 2015-16 failed Tuesday by a 741-1,045 vote.
Only Farmington, Starks and Weld in the 10-town district approved the spending plan, which was a 3.9 percent increase, or $1.2 million, from the current budget. Farmington voters passed it by a 262-234 vote. Starks residents favored it 31-6 and Weld voters approved it 16-11.
Seven towns opposed the plan.
Chesterville rejected it in a 27-108 vote, Industry voters shot it down 39-48, New Sharon voters rejected it 54-215, New Vineyard residents failed it 12-69, Temple voters rejected it 20-42, Vienna voters buried it 20-26 and Wilton voters opposed it 260-286.
District Superintendent Tom Ward was not immediately available for comment Tuesday night.
