LEWISTON — More than 200 veterans will gather here this weekend for the 95th annual Department of Maine Veterans of Foreign Wars state convention.
The three-day conference kicks off Friday at noon at the Ramada Inn in Lewiston.
According to convention Chairman Arthur J. Roy, dignitaries expected to attend Friday’s opening session include Gov. Paul LePage and his wife, Ann, and Thomas J. Tradewell Sr., the past commander in chief of the the national VFW.
Tradewell, from Wisconsin, served in the Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart.
U.S. Sen. Angus King is also scheduled to address the convention during the opening session.
After Friday afternoon’s business session, the convention will honor all of its members who died in the past year during a memorial service at 7 p.m., Roy said.
Saturday’s agenda includes the nomination and election of officers, another business session and a banquet. More meetings follow Sunday morning.
Serving as host for the event is the Capt. Frank W. Hulett Post 1603 on Minot Avenue in Auburn.
The state convention was last held in Lewiston in 2013. The convention harks back to just after World War I.
