The Lewiston police spent the night and day Friday scouring the country side in an auto for the three men that rushed upon Thomas McNamara on a lonely spot on the Randall road, Lewiston, Thursday night, and after smothering him in a burlap bag, beat him into unconsciousness, and stole $800 from his pockets. “The Class of 1990 is undaunted,” stated Principal Walter Buotte after he re-opened commencement exercises in the Oxford Hills High gym in Paris Saturday night. The graduation ceremony was forced indoors by a heavy rainfall. The faculty and graduating class had marched onto the athletic field to begin graduation exercises at Oxford Hills High School. Introduction of dignitaries, including the Honorable George Mitchell, majority leader of the U.S. Senate, had just been completed when a thunderstorm hit with a heavy downpour of rain. Although their caps and gowns were soaked, their hair-do’s bedraggled, members of the senior class reconvened their program in the school gymnasium an hour later.
