It is suggested that the dog fountain in Hospital Square, Lewiston, at the bottom of the watering trough, be put in condition. “It’s a hard town for a dog to go drink in,” was a remark made to a reporter on Tuesday.

The problem of parking vehicles on a strip of land adjacent to the Lewiston City Building continues in a state of mixed emotions, apparently. The police still do not have the authority to enforce court proceedings on those who violate the one-hour parking limit in effect in that particular area, while at the same time the “VIPs” who have parking spaces reserved for them sometimes get a bit rattled when there’s no place to park their automobiles.

A general shake-up involving the parking of City Hall employee vehicles occurred a few months back, when the announcement was made by the Police Department that voiding of parking tickets would cease entirely. This caused employees at the City Building to look elsewhere for places to park their cars, as it was generally the practice to park around the building, and get the parking tickets voided if they were tagged at all. Recently, however, the police announcement has been forgotten apparently, and the parking spaces which were suddenly left vacant for most of the day, became filled again.

What a day to fly the country’s flags! It was Flag Day, and high atop Court Street, Richard Bastow on Thursday morning raised eight flags on poles in front of his 10 Weaver St. home. He’s been collecting them for about 10 years. “I got another one today,” Bastow said. His daughter Susan sent the Washington, D.C., flag that arrived Thursday. Prior to that, he received the Continental Colors — with the Union Jack symbol in place of the stars — as a Christmas present from his wife, Nancy.
