BRUNSWICK (AP) — Police in southwestern Maine are using database registrations to assist on calls involving people with developmental disabilities.

Brunswick police told WMTW-TV (http://bit.ly/1CalPxA) the program has helped two officers on separate emergency calls.

The database lists specifics about people with developmental disabilities so officers can better respond to each situation.

Commander Mark Waltz of the Brunswick police says one officer was able to assist a child barricaded in their room since the officer knew the child’s triggers and was able to avoid them.

Registration is free and more than 30 people have registered in Brunswick. Those wanting to register can apply with the Brunswick Police Department.
