DIXFIELD — Classes in Regional School Unit 10 ended this week, but a host of activities are scheduled this summer so students can continue learning.

From 8 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, from July 7 to July 30, incoming kindergartners and first-graders can attend events at all elementary schools to practice math, writing, letters, numbers and sounds. A recess and snack are included in each session.

Some students from Mountain Valley, Dirigo and Buckfield high schools can attend the GEAR Up Summer Experience at the University of Maine at Farmington. They will receive a head start on social and academic aspects of college life.

Eight students from Mountain Valley High School in Rumford and 11 from Dirigo High School in Dixfield will take part in the Upward Bound program, as well.

Twenty-four students from the three high schools will also participate in Boys and Girls State to learn about U.S. and state government and the political system.

At Dirigo Elementary School in Peru and Rumford Elementary School extended services will be offered for special education.
