READFIELD — The Readfield Historical Society (RHS) has available a 20 month, 44-page calendar commemorating Readfield’s Farm Heritage.

Town Historian Evelyn Adell Potter and her daughter Dale Potter-Clark spearheaded the project.

“Readfield was predominantly a farm town at one time, but it has become more of a bedroom community since World War II” said Potter-Clark. “My mother, who grew up here, felt strongly about preserving some of the memories and information about Readfield’s farm heritage that is fast disappearing, so we took on this project which totally benefits RHS.”

Some of the families and farms included are: Kennemac, Fogg, Gorden, Elvin, Kennecook, McDougald, Wills, Russell, Kents Hill School’s farm, Nason, Coffin, Butman, Trefethen, Lane, Brown, Packard, Smith, Luce, Hawes and more. Along with a brief history of the farms there are many pictures, recipes, and historical trivia that will be treasured long after the calendar has expired, in January 2017.

The calendars cost $10.00 + S&H via http://readfieldmaine.blogspot.com/. They are also available at various locations in Readfield. FMI email [email protected]. The Readfield Historical Society was incorporated in 1985 and exists to preserve the rich heritage of Readfield and her people.
