AUBURN — Workers will detour westbound Court Street traffic at the crest of Goff Hill for most of the day Thursday to investigate a sinkhole.
Public Services Supervisor John Wing said the westbound lane will be detoured right onto Lake Street and to Haskell Street between 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Thursday.
Eastbound lanes will not be affected.
Wing said his crew is investigating a sinkhole on Court Street just west of Lake Street. Auburn police discovered it Sunday and Public Works filled it with asphalt while they waited for clearance from DigSafe, which tracks underground utility lines.
Wing said he doubted that a leaking water or sewer main caused the hole.
“If it was, water and sewer would be out digging,” he said. “We know there is some drainage there that runs down the hill and it is right in line with the basins we have. So I am concerned with the infrastructure.”
