ANSWER: Berkley Hobart, unofficial Greene historian, is the source of this story. He was interviewed for a Sun Journal story in 1997 at which time Jody Goodwin wrote: “One of Hobart’s favorite stories concerns a train that disappeared in Mine Meadows, south of what is now Sullivan Road. It seems that a train with several cars was traveling through when the entire thing, including the tracks it traveled on, simply vanished. The area where it disappeared was known to have quicksand and residents still believe that train lies under Mine Meadows. Attempts to locate the locomotive in the Meadow have been unsuccessful, but it never was found anywhere else.”

If you look at a Google map for Sullivan Road in Greene and look at the satellite photo, the railroad track is visible as is the bog. Do any Sun Spots readers know any more about this legendary train that disappeared?
