DEAR SUN SPOTS: I love the sound of the mandolin. Are there any upcoming concerts in central Maine that include the mandolin? Thank you. — Loves Music, No Town.

ANSWER: In addition to checking the Encore section of the Sun Journal and its calendar, Sun Spots read that Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village will present “Engaging the Spirit of Shaker Music” at 7 p.m. Friday, June 26, in the Shaker Meeting House. Under the direction of Chris Moore of 317 Main Community Music Center, singers will perform the musical and spiritual adaptation of Shaker song and other deep-rooted American folk music traditions through original, contemporary compositions. This concert also features traditional and contemporary folk songs and instrumentals performed on mandolin and guitar by Maine folk musicians Matt Shipman, Ted DeMille, and Chris Moore. Tickets are $20 in advance at www.maineshakers.com or call 207-926-4597. Shaker Village is located on Route 26 at 707 Shaker Road in New Gloucester. For more information, email usshakers@aol.com.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Waterford Grange will gladly accept treasures from your attic or garage to help make our flea market a success. We have sewn, knit, and crocheted items, as well as other crafts. Our flea market treasures include books, toys, seasonal decorations, dishes, and more. Our sales take place each Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. throughout the summer months. Money raised will go to make needed repairs to our aging building as well as supporting local charities. On behalf of the Waterford Grange, I would like to thank you for your help in making last summer’s craft and yard sale a success. Drop by and help us celebrate the 100th anniversary of the purchase of our building. We are located on Route 35 beside the North Waterford Post Office. — Sincerely, Mary DeLorenzo, 207-583-4490.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I just heard on TV News 8 that our beautiful First Lady Barbara Bush has just turned 90 years old — God bless her! She is a most wonderful, admirable woman. I know that she has been very involved with the children’s center at Maine Medical Center. I donated before as my grandson was there.

I try to make a generous donation to an organization like hers every year. Could you provide an address for me to send her a now belated birthday card and also where and who to send my donation for her project in her name? I so admire this woman.

Also, where is the closest cobbler to put a new elastic on my shoes? Thanks so much. You are just super! — No Name in Lewiston.

ANSWER: To send a belated birthday card to Barbara Bush, mail it to: Barbara Bush, 10000 Memorial Dr., Suite 900, Houston, TX 77024. Mail your monetary donation to The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital Development Office, 22 Bramhall Street, Portland, Maine 04102. For more information about making donations or the programs at the hospital, contact the Development Office at 207-662-2101. For shoe repair in the Lewiston area, try Beyond Shoe Repair, 1125 Center St. in Auburn, a mile past the Auburn Mall, 207-783-5403.
