AUBURN — A former member of the Lewiston Maineiacs staff and current vice president of the Maine Red Claws basketball team will take over management at Norway Savings Bank Arena next month.
Auburn City Manager Howard Kroll announced his plans to hire Lewiston resident Marc Gosselin as general manager at the arena beginning July 6.
Gosselin will also fill the role of executive director of Sports Tourism for the city.
He will replace Tim Holden, who stepped down from the position last month after less than one year on the job. Holden was the second person hired to manage the facility since it fully opened in February 2014.
“Mr. Gosselin has a strong background in sales, marketing, fundraising and event organizing,” Kroll wrote in his statement. “He is a strong complement to arena staff and is the best candidate for the long-term success of the arena and for the future of sports tourism in Auburn.”
Gosselin started with the Portland-based Red Claws basketball team in 2010 but took over as vice president of corporate sponsorships for the team in May 2014.
Before that, Gosselin was responsible for sales and marketing, special events, business development and game operations for the Androscoggin Bank Colisee-based Quebec Major Junior Hockey League franchise the Lewiston Maineiacs and then for the American Hockey League’s Portland Pirates.
Gosselin has also worked as the director of development for Central Maine Community College in Auburn, and as an adjunct instructor there.
The Lewiston native has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine at Farmington and a master’s in business from Southern New Hampshire University.
The dual-ice arena is off Turner Street near the Auburn Mall and overlooks Shaw’s Supermarket and Center Street. The facility includes a 380-space parking lot.
It was built to the city’s specifications by developer George Schott who is renting it to the city. It’s part of a city enterprise fund and is meant to pay for its operations with its advertising and ice rental revenues.
