DEAR SUN SPOTS: Recently there was a Sun Spots reader who is a fan of mandolin music and who was looking for any upcoming concerts where mandolin might be featured. Wednesday, June 24, there will be a performance of traditional Franco American jigs-and-reels music in celebration of the feast day of St. Jean Baptiste (the patron saint of Quebec) which will feature mandolin as well as fiddles, guitar, spoons and more. It will take place between 3:30-5 p.m. on the grounds of “Place St. Louis,” the former St. Louis Church which is located at the corner of Dunn and Third streets in New Auburn. Admission is free to all, with attendees encouraged to bring folding chairs for seating. — Another mando fan.

ANSWER: Sun Spots read a press release issued by the Red Hat Ladies of Maine in which they announced a gathering from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at Range State Park in Poland. The park has an undercover area so it is a rain-or-shine event. Admission is charged: resident seniors are free; adults $4.50. Adult guests are welcome to attend.
