NEW SHARON — The Jim Ditzler Memorial Library has announced its summer reading programming themed “Every Hero Has a Story.”

There will also be a program on animal heroes from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, and a program on community heroes from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 1.

Story hour will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 11, through Saturday, Aug. 15. There will be crafts and snacks.

The independent summer reading program runs through Aug. 29.

Children will receive a log book to record the titles of age-appropriate books that they choose to read when they register for the program. They can earn prizes including bookmarks, pencils, book bags and a Gifford’s kid’s cone.

Teenagers can set a goal of their choosing with the librarian and will receive a movie pass when the goal is achieved.

The summer reading program is open to young people, preschool through young adult. All programs are free.
