Do we gallivant about? You bet we do. Was accused of gallivanting the other day and I think that’s a good thing. As long as Dell enjoys driving, I enjoy riding. The passenger seat has a good lumbar support and is adjustable in every way so I am more comfortable than in my easy chair at home.

Sunday we celebrated Dell’s upcoming birthday at Pat and Charlie’s. Pat made Dell a delicious dark chocolate birthday cake with peanut butter frosting. No calories in that.

Tuesday we arose early and traveled to the Augusta Civic Center to attend CAMRA, the annual meeting of Central Maine Power retirees. Had a very good time seeing old friends and hearing the speakers. They serve a well prepared luncheon at the Civic Center, although the servers put out the carrot cake dessert before the entre and many ate the cake immediately, apparently believing that life is short, eat dessert first.

Wednesday was our anniversary as well as Dell’s birthday so we had lunch at Café Cavu, on the flightline at the Auburn Airport. Was interesting to see the private planes glide in and take off. One apparent brand new owner of a two-passenger plane was taking instruction. He had to taxi about a bit to get parked to his instructor’s satisfaction. Then he couldn’t get the canopy up so he could get out.  He was pushing and pushing but the instructor was letting him find out how to get out by himself. I certainly couldn’t fly in that plane if I wanted to as it takes a bit of agility to get in and out.

Last Saturday we went to Bridgton with Pat and Charlie and shopped at Reny’s.  Amazing the amount of stuff you suddenly need. When we went in we, had no idea we needed anything. We had lunch in Harrison and came home early.

Dell’s brothers both called him up on his birthday to tender their good wishes.  Glenn, who lives in Gray, was out of hospital but still has to take meds. His physician recommended that he and his wife, Rachel, move into assisted living so they have decided on Schooner Estates in Auburn and will soon be living there.  They are selling their house and their son and his wife will help them dispose of the contents.

Erwin, Dell’s brother in Dover, New Hampshire, is comfortably settled in assisted living there but is having continuing issues with cellulitis in one leg. It is being treated there and if it doesn’t get any worse, he won’t have to be hospitalized. A nurse comes in regularly to see him.

Paula and Dana are up the coast in Boothbay, doing a job. They have the fifth wheel up there so Dana has all the comforts of home. Paula is back and forth.  They had Kevin Jr. last weekend and visited the railway museum and other attractions. Kevin has glasses and looks very grown up in them. He feels as if he is one of us as we all wear glasses.

Mary and Frank are going to meet with Pamela and the new mother and grandchild today. I mean great-grandchild. It is Pamela’s grandchild. Hard to believe.

Have had an unbelievable number of nuisance calls from telemarketers.  Evidently time to renew my “do not call” request. Best thing to do is hang up on them but the other day I hung up and immediately the phone rang again, a man inquired, “Why you hang up on me?” Rather than discuss it with him I hung up again.

Was reading “How to Stay Young.”  George Carlin said, “Throw out nonessential numbers. this includes age, weight and height.”

Also I want to say, we should express our support for the police, firefighter and the like more often instead of criticizing. “If you think people are inherently good, get rid of the police for 24 hours and see what happens,”George Carlin said.
