HARPSWELL — This July, the DaPonte String Quartet transforms itself into a sextet for a series of concerts called “A Midsummer Night’s Sextets” featuring two renowned guest artists: violist Marcus Thompson and cellist Joshua Gordon. The concert consists of two works, the Brahms “Sextet in B Flat” and Erich Korngold’s “Sextet.”

Audiences will have five chances to catch “A Midsummer Night’s Sextets” in venues ranging from Harpswell to Stonington between July 7 and 16.

Gordon is the cellist of the Naumburg Award-winning Lydian String Quartet and has performed across the world with such groups as the New York Chamber Soloists and the Juilliard and Ying Quartets.

Thompson is artistic director of the Boston Chamber Music Society. He has performed worldwide and as featured soloist with the symphony orchestras of Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland, Philadelphia, St. Louis and with the Boston Pops.

The DaPonte String Quartet, now celebrating its 24th year here, is Maine’s premier string quartet, performing over 60 concerts a year throughout Maine and across the country.

Performances of “Midsummer Night’s Sextets” are at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, at Centennial Hall, 929 Harpswell Neck Road, Harpswell; Wednesday, July 8, at Ocean View Grange Hall, 435 Port Clyde Road, Tenants Harbor; Wednesday, July 15, at the Visitors Center, Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, 132 Botanical Gardens Drive, Boothbay; and Thursday, July 16, at the Union Church, Rte. 129, South Bristol.
