1938 – 2015

AUBURN — Anthony F. “Tony” Nazar, 77, a resident of Wilton, passed away from this life at Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn, on Monday, June 29. His family was with him as he transitioned.

Tony was born on April 30, 1938, in Boston, Mass., to Marian (Bodley) and Vahe Nazar of Newton. He attended Newton and Wellesley public schools, graduating from Wellesley High School in 1956. He later went to Northeastern University, where he earned undergraduate and graduate degrees. He also served with the U.S. Coast Guard.

In 1962, he married Justina Chevone of Wellesley Hills, Mass., who has been his best friend ever since. The young couple moved to southeast Alaska, where they lived and taught for 10 years. A son, Matthew, was born in Wrangell, Alaska.

They returned to New England in 1975 and in 1976, they moved to Wilton, where they have lived ever since.

Tony was a longtime active member of Alcoholics Anonymous and an amateur nature photographer, whose work is known to many of his friends throughout the state. He passed owing a great debt to the retinal team at Eye Care of Maine in Waterville, for keeping his vision good enough to continue that passion.
