FAYETTE — The Fayette selectmen chose Houghton-Daigle of Bangor as the vendor for the town’s new plow truck and plow equipment after opening bids at their June 22 meeting.

At the annual town meeting June 13, voters authorized the town to spend up to $180,000 on a new wheeler and equipment, approving a six-year financial note. Selectmen have negotiated the purchase agreement and are discussing financing of the truck, said Town Manager Mark Robinson in a conversation last week.

The board was pleased with the town meeting overall, he said.

“The general consensus was they were pleased with the response, the discussion, and the end result,” said Robinson. “And, also, the shorter time frame,” he added, noting the meeting was considerably shorter than some in the past.

However, there was a clerical mistake in the article appropriating money for public works, Robinson said. The amount voters approved, $442,672, was $5,000 lower than what had originally been proposed.

“That being said, the school department will be convening a special town meeting in the fall and we’ll consider it then,” he said. Robinson added that he was unsure exactly when the special town meeting would take place.

As part of the public participation section of the selectmen’s meeting, resident Jeannette Kessel asked about the process for creating an ordinance stating where a gun shop can be located in town. She had filed an appeal of a gun and sporting goods store that will be housed in the former Fayette Fire Station, across from the Fayette Country Store. The Fayette Appeals Board had denied the appeal in a meeting on June 8.
