GREENE —The Greene Historical Society will host Lew Alessio’s presentation on The Antique Maine Cape Cod House at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 16, at the Old Town House, 98 Main St. in Greene.
Each year, more of Maine’s homes are lost, and along with them, their history disappears, partly due to the difficulty in maintaining older homes. The visual presentation will explore truth, fiction and the humanity of Maine’s, and America’s, classic historic home, the Cape Cod house.
The presentation will give a glimpse of what life was like when the Cape Cod-style homes were first occupied. Alessio will use local examples and give practical suggestions for maintaining, living in and adjusting to a vintage home that often needs repairs, often without the support of carpenters and electricians.
Alessio, a founding member of the Greene Historical Society, has been involved in antique house restoration all of his adult life. Lew has consulted on a number of restorations in Maine, New York and Newport, R.I., and presented workshops and taught classes on old Maine homes.
Program is free. All are welcome.
