RUMFORD — For four years, audiences have watched many of the lead performers in “Spamalot” grow up on stage. For much of the cast, it was their final performance as Mountain Valley High School students.
“Spamalot” is a musical comedy that pokes fun at the King Arthur legend.
Senior Tucker Phelps played King Arthur and was surrounded by many of his classmates. Dalton Milledge, as Patsy, is Arthur’s constant companion and keeps Arthur’s spirits up as they search for the Holy Grail. Corbin Arsenault was the homicidally brave Sir Lancelot.
Known for her musical talent, senior Leah Perry was the mother of Dennis.
Other seniors included Callahan Prendergast as the Black Knight, Logan Benedix as Head Knight of Ni, Coyote Freeman as Sir Bedevere and Chris Bourret playing various roles.
Senior Jacob Simard was Prince Hebert, who goes through a huge transformation in his final scene. He compared his experience in the musical to being a basketball player.
“Being the lead of the play made me realize it’s not like basketball. You’re working with more people than basketball. It’s more independent because you’re learning lines and creating your character,” said Simard.
Senior Kristin Arsenault as Lady of the Lake lent her voice to several songs, which she found challenging.
“Lady of the Lake was different from myself in that she did more theatrical stuff than I would. All the songs were different. I had to do some different things vocally – like scat in the ‘Spamalot’ song,” said Arsenault.
When asked why she continued in theater arts, she explained, “I’ve been doing it for so long, it’s fun and you enjoy the group you’re doing it with.”
Junior Josh Maillet liked playing the witty and sassy Sir Dennis Gallahad, despite being challenged by having to use a British accent.
“I’m really glad I had the opportunity to perform with such awesome actors, especially the senior actors,” said Maillet.
On a personal note, he said, “I’m also really glad I got to sing a duet with my friend Kristin Arsenault at her last high school musical. It’s something that I’ll always remember.”
