FARMINGTON — The Farmington Conservation Commission advises residents and travelers that a survey of trees in the downtown area and Hippach Field is scheduled to begin Friday, July 10.

The commission received an $8,958 Project Canopy grant to inventory trees in the right of way of 24 streets downtown. The survey will identify insect and disease problems, trees with defects and potential safety concerns. The data will also help the town plan and manage to save money.

At 7 a.m. Monday, survey teams will gather at Meetinghouse Park and be assigned streets to collect information. Each team member will wear a bright orange safety vest. There will be at least one Conservation Commission member, one forester and one arborist on each team.

The data collection will continue through early fall.
