WELLS — Maine state police say a Massachusetts man being pursued for erratic driving struck a Wells police cruiser with two officers inside.

Maine state police say the cruiser rolled and landed in the passing lane of Interstate 95 northbound. Two Wells officers — 21-year-old Dylan McNally 27-year-old Thomas Kinney — were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Police charged 33-year-old Anthony Menici of Charlestown, Massachusetts, with operating under the influence, driving to endanger and possession of Suboxone. He was taken to Southern Maine Medical Center with multiple injuries.

State police say they received reports at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday of an erratic driver heading southbound on I-95 from Kennebunk. Trooper Kristy Libritz headed north from York and enlisted the help of Wells police. Officers in both police cruisers were being updated on the location of the erratic driver by a tractor trailer driver following the car.

The officers were watching for the vehicle when they spotted it weaving all over the road. The car — a 2006 BMW — suddenly veered across the median strip and into the Wells cruiser.

Police say both vehicles were demolished.
