If the news coverage is correct, Gov. Paul LePage needs to resign or be impeached.
It is unbelievable in this day and age that any modern politician would treat Maine’s House Speaker Mark Eves with such disrespect and dishonor. For any governor to treat and try to blackmail such a high-ranking state government official in such distaste is unbelievable.
I would ask that Democratic Attorney General Janet Mills utilize the resources of her office to prosecute Gov. LePage, the House of Representatives vote to impeach him, and the State Senate to convict him.
In the June 24 Sun Journal, State Sen. Roger Katz, R-Augusta, used this column to comment on the governor’s condemnation of Rep. Peggy Rotundo, D-Lewiston. If anyone believes this is healthy for state government or the political process, you are absolutely wrong.
The House Speaker’s position is the No. 2 position in state government and must be respected. For any governor or any state politician to demean this office is beyond comprehension.
We must join together to make Maine government work. Obviously, Gov. LePage must think he is a modern day Hilter if he believes he can demean and degrade House Speaker Mark Eves to this level.
It can not and must not work.
