1912 – 2015

FALMOUTH — Margaret F. Bowie Rendall, formerly of Falmouth, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 5, at Bay Square in Yarmouth, where she had been in residence for the past five years.

Margaret was born in Durham, on June 16, 1912, to Leon R. and Almeda Libby Bowie. She attended Durham schools and was a graduate of Edward Little High School. She went onto receive her teaching certificate from Farmington Normal School and later, her Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Maine.

Margaret was a school teacher for over 40 years, starting in a one-room school in Pownal, where one of the registered “students” was Jack, the dog. She went on to teach in Freeport and Auburn, as well as many years of sub-primary at Thornton Heights in South Portland.

Margaret married Ellsworth “Bud” Rendall on July 30, 1949. Aunt Marg and Uncle Bud enjoyed traveling, especially with their dear friends, Irene and Artie Willette and Tom and Shirley Craven. Many adventures were had by all in the Caribbean or at Silver Birches in Harpswell.

Margaret was also an avid gardener with the neatest yard on Carmichael. Margaret was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Above all, she loved her family at the farm in Durham, where she grew up and participated with gusto in every holiday and family celebration.

Margaret was predeceased by her parents; husband; and siblings, Alton (Eben), Louis (Luke), Philip, Leon Jr. (Beanie), Frank, Alice, Louise and Dorothy. She is survived by her brother, Maynard M. Bowie and his wife, Glenice, of Wales; her sister-in-law, Lucille Bowie of Durham; and her stepdaughter, Sally of Oregon. The beloved nieces and nephews are far too numerous to name!

The family would like to thank the wonderful folks at Bay Square, who provided for her and for Dorothy in their later years. Our appreciation is heartfelt.
