AUBURN — Local attorney and Androscoggin Land Trust board member Jim Pross will seek the Ward 1 City Council seat this November.

Ward 1 Councilor Tizz Crowley has said she won’t seek another term.

“I’m running for my daughter,” Pross said in a written statement. “She’s a student at East Auburn Community School. This year’s budget debate made me want to get involved.”

The school is the best in the district, he said, despite annual attempts to close it.

“I want to ensure that our community’s school is fully funded,” he wrote. “Nothing is more important to our city’s long-term health than the education of our children.”

Pross works for the Tarbell and Brodich law firm in a Main Street office. He’s also a regular contributor for local magazines and a strong supporter of local arts. He’s the past president of the Land Trust.

“Downtown Auburn is the best place to have an office,” he wrote. “It’s nice to walk along the Riverwalk to go to the Post Office . . . or to go for a run at lunchtime.”

Candidates have until Aug. 20 to collect enough signatures to secure a spot on the Nov. 3 ballot.
