AUBURN — The Penley Corner Church, located on Riverside Drive, will be open to the public at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 12, for its annual all-faiths service.
Leading the services this year will be Deacon Peter Barrett. Barrett has been a member of the Litchfield Plains Baptist Church more than 30 years.
Barrett was born and raised in Lisbon Falls, and he served the U.S. In Afghanistan. He and his wife, Ginny, have a daughter, two sons and 10 grandchildren. They make their home in Litchfield.
Barrett is currently finishing formal ministerial education at the American Institute Ministry Program in Gardiner. He plans to graduate in 2016.
Captain John Penley donated the lot for the church and cemetery in 1833. The church is now listed in the National Register of Historical Places. Relatives of the church’s founder often attend from various parts of the country, as well as local community members.
Everyone is invited to the service followed by refreshments and fellowship.
