1933 – 2015

LEWISTON — Roland Lewis Marshall, 81, the oldest lifelong resident of Granite Street, Mexico, passed peacefully with family at his side, in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 11, at Central Maine Medical Center, Lewiston.

He was born on Granite Street, Mexico, Oct. 10, 1933, the son of Michael and Lena (Strout) Marshall. He received his education in local schools and on Aug. 23, 1953, in Mexico, married his best friend, Mary Ann Ouellette of Jay. He operated Marshalls Service Center at the top of Falls Hill, Rumford from January of 1970 until Septempber of 1995. He also co-owned Rolann’s Ice Cream Shoppe with his wife, adjacent to the Service Center, from 1985 to 2001.

Roland was a member of the Eagles in Rumford, and was a quiet family-centered gentleman who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and their families.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ann, of Mexico; their children, Michael Marshall and his wife, Suzanne, of Bryant Pond, Robin Marshall and his wife, Lisa, of Dixfield, Kim Marshall and his wife, Susan, of Mexico, Lee Marshall and his wife, Lynne, of Fairfield, Sheila Mills and her husband, Chris, of S. Portland, Lynn Moroney and her husband, Michael, of Suffield, Conn., and Jamie Marshall and his wife, Karen, of Rome, Ga.; 24 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren; a special niece, Mary McDermott and her husband, William, of Framingham, Mass.; a special nephew, J. Gary Thibodeau of Bradenton, Fla.; and a special cousin, Carroll Strout of Palm Harbor, Fla.

In addition to his folks, he was predeceased by his sister, Mildred Thibodeau; and a grandnephew, Sean McDermott.
