1945 – 2015

AUBURN — Lionel M. Gagnon, 70, of Lewiston, passed away peacefully at the Hospice House in Auburn after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family and friends during his final days.

Lionel was born Feb. 8, 1945. He attended Lewiston schools and was employed by Bates Fabrics for 13 years. Afterward, Lionel worked for WRE property Management for nearly 30 years, maintaining the Windham and Lewiston malls.

Lionel was the son of the late Ernest Gagnon and Albertine Royer. He enjoyed fishing at local lakes with his wife of 49 years, Genevieve. He also had a passion for gardening and carpentry. His beautiful voice would draw crowds in local malls and supermarkets. In earlier years, Lionel was often heard speaking French with family and members of Lewiston’s large French-speaking community.

Lionel is survived by his wife; a son, John Gagnon and daughter-in-law Tu Nguyen-Gagnon of Lewiston; his daughter, Michelle Gagnon and long-term companion Dan Beaudoin of Lisbon. He also leaves behind granddaughters, Angie Gagnon and Kayla Diaz; and grandson, Ben Patten. Also a sister, Diane Guimond of Lewiston; and brother, Robert Gagnon of Sabattus.

His predecessors include nine siblings throughout the U.S.

Special thanks to Androscoggin Home Hospice and Hospice House of Auburn for comforting Lionel with love and care. Thanks to all who have given support and continue offering condolences to the family of Lionel M. Gagnon.
