Thrift shop hosting blue tag sale

BRIDGTON — The Bridgton Hospital Guild Thrift Shop, located on Main St. adjacent to Reny’s, is hosting its famous July ‘Blue Tag’ $1 sale through the rest of the month.

The shop features clothes for every member of the family as well as a selection of housewares.

VFW to hold breakfast

HARRISON — Ronald G. St. John VFW Post 9328 will host its monthly public breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. on Sunday, July 19, at the VFW Hall on Waterford Road. The cost of the meal is $7 for adults and $4 for children younger than 10.

Sumner church to host guest speaker

SUMNER — West Sumner Universality Church will host Cynthia Reedy to conduct its services at 11 a.m. on Sunday, July 19.

Reedy has worked at the Edmonds Unitarian Universalist Church with Reverend Bob Fulghum, and has taught at Hebron Academy. She is a 2015-16 recipient of a Fulbright Distinguished Award in Teaching. All are invited to attend.

Perham to host talk

NORWAY — The Western Foothills Land Trust will host Frank Perham at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, at the Norway Memorial Library.

Perham, one of North America’s foremost experts on granitic pegmatites, will be speaking about his Harvard Quarry in Greenwood.

The land trust is currently fundraising to purchase and protect the summit of Noyes Mountain in Greenwood. The 295-acre project parcel will provide recreational trails and non-motorized public access, protect water resources, wildlife habitat, agricultural fields and will provide access to the historic Harvard Quarry owned by Perham.

The event is free and open to the public. Donations to the Noyes Mountain purchase will be accepted.

Krohn to speak at historical society meeting

OQUOSSOC — William B. Krohn, emeritus professor of wildlife ecology, will speak at the Rangeley Lakes Region Historical Society Annual Meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22. Krohn will speak on the adventures and accomplishments of local guide Daniel E. Heywood, also an accomplished hunter.

Later in life, Heywood was a photographer and taxidermist in Rangeley. His grave is located in Rangeley’s Evergreen Cemetery.

This year’s meeting will be held at the historical society’s Outdoor Sporting Heritage Museum at the corner of Routes 4 and 17 in Oquossoc.

The presentation is free and open to the public. All are welcome.

OXFORD — Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met at 9:15 a.m. on Friday, July 10. A 12 table Mitchell movement was played.

Finishing first in flight A N/S were Mike Newsom of South Paris and Misha Tomac of Waterford. Second were Ruth Tyler of Maryland and Les Buzzell of Auburn. Third were Nancy Capone and Greg Grigsby of Bridgton, who were also first in flights B and C. Fourth in A were Norma and Rick Verrill of Gorham who were also second in flight B. Third in B were Martha Round of Casco and Martha Thurlow of Waterford. Fourth were Laura Chandler of Winthrop and Marjie Leveaque of Waterford, who were also second in flight C. Third in C were Pat Soule of Waterford and Georgette Jewell of Norway. Fourth were Linda Smith and Jack Neal of Oxford.

Finishing first in flight A E/W were Pat Quinn of Otisfield and Rosemarie Goodwin of Lewiston. Second were Diana and Frank Ferland of Harrison, who were also first in flights B and C. Third in A were Paul Kahl of Gorham and Nick Karamessinis of New Gloucester. Fourth were Milt McKeen of Bridgton and Jim Krainin of Naples, who were also second in flights B and C. Third in B were David Kallander of Raymond and Denny Raymond of Waterford. Fourth were Marlee Turner and Cathy Sanderson of Waterford.
