FALMOUTH — Maine State Police say traffic is moving smoothly following a tractor-trailer fire that stopped traffic on the Maine Turnpike a few miles north of Portland.
Troopers say firefighters battled the blaze in the northbound lanes Thursday morning. No one was injured, and the coal ash being transported was contained, according to a state police statement.
All lanes were initially closed but the southbound lanes later reopened. An official says all lanes were reopened by 11:06 a.m.
Ward Bond, 50, of Corinna was driving, and police did not charge him. Troopers think a wheel bearing on the trailer overheated and started the fire.
