OXFORD — Shipment of completed modular homes to customers resumed Monday when the main office of Keiser Industries reopened after a fire on Friday damaged the outside rear of the building and a lean-to that stored wood located at 56 Mechanic Falls Road.

Little damage occurred to the inside of the factory and “all the modules of finished goods were unharmed,” according to a statement released by Phil Hickman, president of all operating plants under Innovative Building Systems LLC, the parent company of Excel Homes of Maine LLC.

Excel Homes of Maine, which builds the Keiser Homes and Excel brands of custom modular homes in Oxford, is waiting for insurance adjusters and structural engineers to release the site for cleanup so employees can get back to work. Hickman states that there will only be a short interruption in production while waiting for the final ruling of the State Fire Marshall’s office.

Hickman also extended his thanks to Fire Chief Wayne Jones “and all the participating fire departments who worked tirelessly…to keep flames from the blaze outside the factory from getting inside and damaging the production facility.” He also wished to extend the company’s gratitude to employees, customers and suppliers who assisted over the past few days to bring the production facility back online.

Excel Homes’ other facilities in Pennsylvania, New York and Virginia can build product to ship to Maine customers should the need arise, Hickman said.
