1949 – 2015
DURANGO, Colo. — Matthew D. DeCourcy, 66, of Durango, Colo., passed away at his home Thursday, July 16, after a long illness.
Matthew was born Jan. 2, 1949, in Gardner, Mass. He attended school in Rumford and graduated from Stephens High School, Class of 1968.
Known to his many wonderful and faithful friends as “Country,” he spent most of his life in company with them in the beautiful area of the southwest in and around Durango, Colo. There he enjoyed the many opportunities his favorite place offered.
He was an avid skier and enjoyed being a ski instructor at Purgatory Ski Resort, and anyone who received his instruction was treated to an entertaining experience.
Matthew is predeceased by his mother, Beatrice McKellick DeCourcy; and his father, Auguste “Pitou” DeCourcy.
Surviving are his brother, Peter DeCourcy and wife, Sandy, of Rumford; niece, Sarah and her companion, P.J. Farrington, of Andover; nephew, Beau DeCourcy and fiancée, Brianne Emmerson of Lewiston.
