OXFORD — The Oxford County Democrats has announced its summer highlights and upcoming events.

The Democrats held a thank you reception for former Rep. Mike Michaud for his legislative service Saturday, June 6, prior to Michaud’s commencement address at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.

The group presented a float highlighting the contributions of women to political history at the Woodstock Bicentennial Saturday, June 20. The float also appeared at Molly Ockett Day in Bethel Saturday, July 18.

The group also staffed a table at Woodstock Bicentennial and Sen. John Patrick presented a legislative sentiment on behalf of himself and Rep. Matt Peterson, also in attendance, as well as Rep. Diane Russell, native of Woodstock. The senator, along with Jimmy and Brenda McHugh, also staffed a table Saturday, July 4, prior to the fireworks at Hosmer Field in Rumford.

The group has also been collecting signatures for a minimum wage increase referendum.

Raise the Minimum Wage referendum petitions are available for those interested. The group will set several dates in August to gather signatures. Petition instructions and forms for individuals willing to canvass for signatures are available by emailing info@oxforddems.org.

Upcoming events include Andover Old Home Days Saturday, Aug. 1, and the Dixfield outdoor market on Saturday, Aug. 15. There will be a yard sale at the Dixfield event with Jimmy and Brenda McHugh chairing that effort.

The group will hold its annual fundraising barbecue at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, at the University of Maine 4-H Camp in Bryant Pond. Tickets are $20 and may be reserved by calling 207-875-2116 or emailing info@oxforddems.org.
