A thank-you from the Spruce Mountain HS Envirothon Team
To the Editor:
We the members of the Spruce Mountain Envirothon Team wish to thank all those in our community who have contributed to making our goal of attending the National Conservation Foundation (NCF) Envirothon possible. We spent a great deal of time preparing for the Maine State Envirothon and have continued to do so for our upcoming competition. We hope to represent Maine and our communities with pride as we compete with teams from across the United States and Canada from July 26th to Aug. 2nd.
Through the support of the community at our bottle drive, tag days, and other fundraisers, we have been able to raise the funds to travel to Missouri State University to compete. We sincerely appreciate your assistance and encouragement!
We would like to thank our generous sponsors, who include: ReEnergy, Jean Castgonguay Logging and Excavation, Maurais and Son Heating and Plumbing, Pallet One of Maine, Jay/Livermore Fall Lions Club, Hilltop Collision, Jarden Plastic Solutions, Sons of AMVETS, AMVETS Post 33, Daughters of Isabella, Androscoggin Bank, OTIS Credit Union, Roger Kay DDS, Getchell Brothers, Dr William Beaker, John Hughes- Ameriprise, Finely Funeral Home, FAT Electric, Mcallister Accounting, Dr Sonali Patel DDS, Livermore Falls Water District, Darryl and Penny Brown, Cianbro, Lunch Pad, Autobahn High Performance, ProNails, Beauty Mark Salon, Calzalaios, Steve and Amanda Allen, Maine Association of Conservation Districts, Shiloh Lafreniere, Tina and Shawn Riley, Olivia Griset – President of the ME Environmental Education Association, Main-Land Development, Farmington Conservation Commission, Spruce Mountain Pharmacy, RSU 73, the Employees of Verso Paper Company, and the Members of the Otis Credit Union.
We will be posting updates of our team’s activities and photos from the competition on our team Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/smhsenvirothon. Please follow us as we prepare and compete.
We have also been busy preparing for the NCF competition through a number of community service activities that help us by putting learning into action. This summer, members of our Envirothon program are participating in helping the Farmington Conservation Commission develop an electronic community tree inventory, growing produce for food pantries in the school greenhouse, and monitoring our local drinking water sources with the Livermore Falls Water District. Updates on these projects are on our Facebook page as well.
Sincerely,
Amber Delaney, Liesel Krout, Abbie Hartford, Denton Bilodeau, and Tyler Ritter
