There will be a recital of music for flute and piano at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Rangeley on Sunday, August 16, at 5:00PM, performed by Greig Shearer, flute and Nancy Shearer Ludwig, piano. Freewill donations will be received to benefit the mission of Good Shepherd. Nancy and Greig have summered in the Oquossoc/Rangeley area since their parents, John and Lydia Shearer, built a camp on Mooselookmeguntic in 1957. Greig has been Principal Flutist with the Hartford Symphony since 1993.

The program will consist of a Sonata by J.S. Bach, followed by two movements of a Suite by Charles Marie Widor, the late 19th century French composer central to the revival of Bach’s music.  Next will be a set of four pieces by Albert Roussel, each a character study of flutists who studied with Paul Taffanel, to whom the Widor is dedicated.  They will be followed by a Canzone by Samuel Barber, a teacher of composition at the Curtis Institute, where Nancy studied.  The program will conclude with the Duo for Flute and Piano by Aaron Copland, dedicated to the memory of William Kincaid, long time teacher of flute at the Curtis Institute, and a student of Georges Barerre, who was himself a student of Paul Taffanel.
