AUBURN — The city of Auburn will host a community meeting to receive feedback on neighborhood growth plans at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, at Auburn Hall.
The city is developing an updated downtown and neighborhood revitalization strategy for the areas that encompass the downtown, New Auburn and Union Street/PAL Center areas. Much of the strategy will be drawn from work the community has already completed that has been adopted by the City Council, but resident feedback on priorities, areas of interest and new ideas are being sought.
The meeting will be facilitated by a consultant from Planning Decisions.
This strategy document will summarize policies and plans that provide guidance on investment decisions and redevelopment in the city, including ensuring eligibility to pursue state and federal resources to leverage private investments in these neighborhoods. Plans adopted and being compiled for this document include the city’s 2011 Comprehensive Plan, the Auburn Downtown Action Plan for Tomorrow, the New Auburn Master Plan, the 2015 CDBG Consolidated Plan and the Five-Year Capital Improvement Plan.
“The city has adopted a number of different plans to support bringing new life back to these historic neighborhoods. We are now seeking to pull these plans into one document, to help us maintain focus on our efforts, and this presents a great opportunity to hear from the community and those living in and investing in these neighborhoods about how we prioritize, or even if they have new suggestions for us to consider,” said Howard Kroll, city manager.
