1935 – 2015

NORWAY — Bertha E. Smith, 80, passed away peacefully in her sleep late Friday, July 24, at the Norway Rehabilitation Center, after spending the day with her loving family at her side.

She was born at home in Raymond on February 5, 1935, to Harland Thurlow and Bessie Knight. She was raised on the farm with her seven siblings; four brothers and three sisters, and a very special aunt Abbie Knight. She attended Windham/Raymond schools.

She was married to Donald E. Smith of Bolsters Mills; they had three children, Gene Smith and his wife, Chris, of Norway; Marge Masterman and her partner, David Billings, of Otisfield; and Connie Morrill and her husband, Brian, of Otisfield; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She loved spending time riding and going out to eat with her brother, Richard Thurlow, and his wife, Bertha. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and also worked at Norway Footwear for many years. She enjoyed spending quality time with her family, playing cards, going for long rides, playing Bingo, listening to loud country music and eating ice cream. She had a very positive outlook on life and an incredible sense of humor that will not be forgotten.
