BRIDGTON — The public is invited to join Loon Echo Land Trust, along with Casco and Raymond libraries, for a star party from 9 p.m. to midnight on Wednesday, Aug. 12, at the summit of Hacker’s Hill in Casco. People planning to attend should bring a comfortable chair, bug spray and flashlight. There is no charge for the event but donations are welcome. In the event of rain, the event will take place the following evening.

If conditions allow, the Perseid meteor shower should be visible. At its peak, this shower seems to originate from the constellation Perseus, it’s namesake. With a new moon approaching, conditions should be favorable for upward of 50-60 meteors per hour.

In between shooting stars, gaze through telescopes and high powered binoculars and get familiar with “apps” for smart phones and tablets which make learning about the night sky even more fun.

Park in the event parking area to the right of the upper parking lot. Those people wishing to bring a picnic and catch the sunset may arrive about 7:30 p.m.

For more information about this event, contact Jon Evans at [email protected] or call 207-647-4352. For more information about other Loon Echo events, go to: www.loonecholandtrust.org or call the office located in Bridgton at (207) 647-4352.
