OXFORD — Thompson Lake Environmental Association will hold its annual meeting Saturday, Aug. 1, from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Oxford Town Recreational Center at the juncture of Route 121 and Main Street.

All are welcome to attend. Coffee and refreshments will be served to all participants.

The Audubon Society will speak about loons and their life on the lake, and Dan Pontbriand will speak on wildlife in and around the lake and responsible care of wildlife according to Maine Environmental Laws. An additional presentation will be about the safety and use of fireworks on and around the lake and its impact on wildlife and the environment.

Merchandise will be available for purchase including TLEA hats, T-shirts, sweatshirts, handmade items, towels, tote bags, laminated maps of the lake, photo place-mats of lake scenes and publications. There will be a raffle for one of Co-PresidentKathy Cain’s beautiful framed lake photographs along with a 50/50 raffle.

Proceeds will fund the work TLEA does around the lake, particularly the natural removal and control of lake milfoil and other invasive species through the work of the “Hippobottomus,” an equipped pontoon boat, and divers. Other ongoing projects are the Youth Conservation Corp that repairs and maintains erosion control along the shoreline for landowners, the boat monitoring stations at each end of the lake and assistance with 319 grant lake protection erosion control projects.
