LIVERMORE FALLS — Treat Memorial Library has announced events for the month of August.
Summer Reading Program will end Saturday, Aug. 1, and readers should submit their reading logs by Saturday, Aug. 8. A finale event for the program will be at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, where readers can pig out on reading with Farmer Minor and Daisy, the “world’s most famous pig,” that has thousands of library cards across the nation. This event will be free and open to the public.
Summer Reading is winding down, but Preschool Story Time continues on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. with stories, games, music and crafts. Staff encourage kids to share their favorite authors or themes so that it may featured at Story Time.
The Teen Writing Group will meet Tuesdays, Aug. 4 and Aug. 18, at 6 p.m. All area teen writers are encouraged to attend. Each writer will receive a writing journal full of prompts to inspire the creative process and get helpful hints, support, and encouragement from the group and from the occasional visiting writer.
Spring Book Club will have its final meeting in the series of Maine authors Thursday, Aug. 20, at 3 p.m. Readers should contact Assistant Director Brianna to borrow a copy of the final book up for discussion. A new book club theme will be announced in the fall.
Summer Readers are encouraged to bring in non-perishable food items for the food pantry until the end of August.
In other matters, the library hired Alana Knapp, a University of Maine at Farmington graduate, as an assistant at the circulation desk.
It has added new features to its online catalog, such as the ability to update account information and choose to receive checkout receipts electronically.
