PARIS — Healthy Oxford Hills, along with several state agencies and Maine casinos, is working to help people who have a gambling problem sign up for self-exclusion.

A person can self-exclude by signing an agreement to not enter a casino for a period of one to five years or a lifetime. Staff at Healthy Oxford Hills and Stephens Memorial Hospital are there to help anyone who wishes to sign-up for self-exclusion.

Most people gamble responsibly, but some can become addicted to gambling and that can cause major problems with work, family and finances. Self-exclusion is an opportunity for people whose casino gambling has become a problem to regain control by limiting their access to Maine casinos.

Before the new sites were open, the only place a person could sign up for self-exclusion was at a Maine casino. Additional sites make it easier for people to sign up without entering the place they are trying to avoid.

Those who think they may have a gambling problem should dial 2-1-1 or visit www.211maine.org. For more information on Maine’s self-exclusion program, including the locations to self-exclude, visit www.maine.gov/selfexclusion.

To discuss self-exclusion and consider completing paperwork in Western Maine, contact Healthy Oxford Hills at 739-6222 and ask to speak to Sarah or contact Central Registration at Stephens Memorial Hospital at 744-6042 and ask for Kelly.
