CARTHAGE — A father and son were arrested Wednesday morning on drug-related charges after police searched homes on Winter Hill Road and Tainter Corner Road, Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr. said in a news release.

Russell Smith, 51, of 40 Winter Hill Road was charged with unlawful trafficking in heroin and unlawful possession of heroin, according to Nichols.

Anthony Smith, 30, was charged with unlawful trafficking in heroin, unlawful possession of ketamine, a horse tranquilizer, and falsifying physical evidence.

The two were transported to the Franklin County Detention Center in Farmington, where Anthony Smith began showing signs of a possible drug overdose and was transported to Franklin Memorial Hospital by ambulance, the release said.

The search warrants were executed by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, along with members of the Maine State Police and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.
