NEW SHARON — A Florida woman fell asleep at the wheel, crossed the centerline on Route 2 just after noon on Saturday and struck two cars driven by Jay teenagers, according to police.
Cpl. Christopher Chase of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department said Carrel Meyers, 55, was driving west on Route 2 when her 2015 Chrysler 200 struck a 2011 Honda Pilot driven by Elijah Parker, 16, and then a 2001 Honda Civic driven by Noah Parker, 17, at 12:40 p.m. The Parkers were both driving east on Route 2.
Meyers was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. Chase said all other drivers and passengers were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
All three cars were declared total losses.
Chase was investigating the accident. As of Saturday, he didn’t anticipate filing any charges.
