1944 – 2015

LITCHFIELD — Carolyn L. Bickford, longtime resident of Litchfield and later a resident of Zephyrhills, Fla., passed peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 23, surrounded by her loving family at the Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn after a courageous three-and-a-half-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

She was born in Gardiner on June 9, 1944, the daughter of Arthur and Helen Tozier Allen. Carolyn attended schools in Litchfield, graduating in 1962 from Monmouth Academy. She married David Bickford on Oct. 1, 1976, in Gardiner. She was employed by Albany Felt Co. in North Monmouth as a secretary and later was the office manager for Bickford & Melton Reporting firm in Litchfield. She retired in 2009.

Carolyn enjoyed spending her winters in Florida, biking and golfing, and she especially enjoyed family gatherings. She attended Manchester Community Church and Zephyrhills First United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, David, longtime resident of Litchfield and now a resident of Zephyrhills, Fla.; her children, Robert Pettengill and wife, Dawn, of North Monmouth, Jeffrey Bickford and wife, Melissa, of Killeen, Texas, Cathy Barter and husband, Thomas, of Brunswick, Rebecca Fortier and companion, Sean Greenwood, of Sabattus, and Laura Grondin and husband, Andrew, of Lewiston; two brothers, Rodney Allen and wife, Lois, of Litchfield, and Richard Allen and wife, Carol, of Monmouth; and seven grandchildren, Cody Fortier, Christopher Barter, Brooke Barter, R.J. Pettengill, Joseph Greenwood, James Greenwood and Maddox Grondin.

Carolyn was so pleased to learn her eighth grandchild, a granddaughter, is expected in January 2016 to Laura and Andrew Grondin.

She was predeceased by her father, Arthur Allen; and mother, Helen Allen.
