AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — A Kennebec County man will serve 15 years in prison for the rape of a girl under the age of 14.

The Kennebec Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1NLzCDp ) 61-year-old Joseph McInnis was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to one count of gross sexual assault earlier this month.

Justice Michaela Murphy ordered McInnis to serve a 25-year term with 10 years suspended. The Oakland resident will also register as a lifetime sex offender.

McInnis was indicted in August 2012 on multiple counts of gross sexual assault and unlawful sexual contact.

Prosecutors say the abuse, all with the same victim, occurred between Jan. 1, 2011, and Jan. 31, 2012.

In exchange for pleading to gross sexual assault, all remaining charges were dropped. McInnis was also convicted of gross sexual misconduct in 1986.
