 Franco Center concert

LEWISTON — Concert pianist Ksenia Kostelanetz, a 14-year-old from Milwaukee, Wisc., will present the first performance of the Franco Center’s 15th Anniversary Season on Sunday, Aug. 30 at 3 p.m. Her program, which is free to the community, will include pieces by Beethoven, Chopin, Haydn, Schubert, Lizst and Debussy.

Born to a musical family of immigrants from St. Petersburg, Russia, Kostelanetz was the youngest and last piano student of Frank Glazer, who died last winter just shy of his 100th birthday. Among those in her family was the renowned conductor, Andre Kostelanetz. Ksenia began her piano lessons at age 4 and has also studied with Sue Medford and Stephen Swedish. She had master classes with concert pianists Andre-Michel Schub and Alan Feinberg.

In 2012, Kostelanetz received second place in the Wisconsin Music Teachers Association Competition and in the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music Scholarship Auditions. In 2013, she was a semi-finalist in the Wisconsin Youth Piano Concerto Competition. She performed Mozart Concerto No.12 K.414.

In March, she participated in a concert at the Franco Center in celebrate the musical life of Frank Glazer. Ksenia, fluent in French and Russian, has attended school in France and visited France and Russia several times. She will perform on the Steinway piano in the Franco Center’s magnificent hall and will be joined by violinist, Aya Murphy Wakita for a surprise piece.

Those who attend will be able to buy season passes and individual tickets for the remaining six concerts in the 10th Annual Piano Series at the Center. Tickets for the remainder of the season are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors, and all students are admitted for free. Season passes for the entire Piano Series can be purchased for $50.
