No jam sessions for two weeks

RUMFORD — There will be no weekly jam sessions at the Snowshoe Club, Waldo Street, on Saturdays, Aug. 29 and Sept. 5. They will resume on Saturday, Sept. 12.

Blood drive at Farmington hospital

FARMINGTON — An American Red Cross blood drive will take place from noon to 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, at Franklin Memorial Hospital. The blood drive is sponsored by American Legion Post 28.

Play museum announces movie night

WILTON — Western Maine Play Museum has announced it will hold a family movie night at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4.

The film will be “Finding Nemo.” The evening will feature refreshments and glow-in-the-dark jewelry.

Families are advised to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Bathroom facilities will be available. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

The cost for tickets is $4 for a single person, or $10 for a family. The rain date is Sunday, Sept. 5.

Taking crafter applications for fair

RUMFORD — Crafter applications are being taken for River Valley Rotary Club’s 22nd annual Oktoberfest Craft Fair, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at 85 Lincoln Ave.

The nonrefundable fee will be $25 for each eight-foot table or $20 a table for those who donate an item toward the silent auction. Two chairs will also be provided a table.

Learn to build a root cellar

SKOWHEGAN — University of Maine Cooperative Extension will offer a free introductory workshop on designing, constructing and maintaining root cellars for winter food storage from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, at the UMaine Extension Somerset County office, 7 County Drive.
