Author to present workshop at church

JAY — Dr. Gordon S. Grose of Oregon, with roots in Dryden, will present a workshop, “Overcoming Our Fears,” at Bean’s Corner Baptist Church at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3.

Grose will use concepts from his recent book, “Tragedy Transformed: How Job’s Recovery Can Provide Hope for Yours.” His book is the result of 12 years of research and interviewing, and contains stories of people in tragedy who found hope through their experience through God and the account of Job’s struggles.

Grose pastored three congregations and counseled in a mental health clinic before retiring in 2003 in order to write.

In his book, Grose demonstrates biblical Job’s relevance for people today and describes people who survived the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, the sudden death of a spouse and suicidal depression.

The workshop is free.
